Boerman Moving & Storage

Packing Tips from the Pros

Moving doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With the right approach, you can stay organized, protect your belongings, and make unpacking much easier.

Start Early and Stay Organized

Packing always takes longer than expected, so give yourself plenty of time.

  • Pack one room at a time
  • Keep items from each room together
  • Clearly label every box with contents and destination

Staying organized now will save you hours later.

Use the Right Materials

Quality packing materials make all the difference in protecting your belongings.

You’ll want to have:

  • Packing paper (you’ll need more than you think)
  • 2-inch sealing tape
  • Markers for labeling
  • Box cutter or scissors

Using proper materials is one of the easiest ways to prevent damage during your move.

Pack Smart to Prevent Damage

A few simple rules can help keep everything safe in transit:

  • Keep boxes under 50 pounds
  • Place heavier items on the bottom, lighter items on top
  • Wrap each item individually
  • Fill empty space with packing paper to prevent shifting

Boxes should feel firm and tightly packed with no movement inside.

How to Properly Pack a Box

  1. Tape the bottom securely (2–3 passes of tape)
  2. Add a layer of crumpled paper for cushioning
  3. Place heavier items first
  4. Fill gaps with smaller items and packing paper
  5. Add padding to the top before sealing
  6. Tape shut and label clearly
