Our 7^th Move for Warmth Coat Drive was a huge success! Thanks to the help from 15 local real estate offices, we were able to collect winter coats for families in need and donate them to WINGS Program, Inc.

Not only did we collect multiple overflowing boxes filled with coats, but also monetary donations! Bridget Carroll from Keller Williams in Glen Ellyn was able to raise money to make a monetary donation of $1,600 to WINGS.

WINGS is an organization that provides victims of domestic violence and their families support through providing safe housing, mentoring programs, counseling, and much more.

October is domestic violence awareness month. We want to show our support in anyway we can especially during the coronavirus pandemic. It is obvious that COVID has caused problems everywhere this year. What people do not necessarily see, are the unsafe environments at home. Because COVID has caused numerous families to lose their jobs and work from home, domestic violence victims find themselves trapped with no way out. Without being in person, many of these cases are now going unnoticed by teachers and social workers. WINGS helps victims that are forced to flee quickly, often with only what they have on their backs. Victims have not been able to safely connect with services because of the stay at home order. Teachers and social workers can not identify and report child abuse if schools and daycares are closed.

The added stress of balancing work, childcare, and the pandemic has created the “perfect storm” for domestic violence victims. The goal of our Move for Warmth Coat Drive is to not only collect coats, but to spread awareness on the issues regarding domestic violence and to help organizations like WINGS to provide services to families in need.
