Meet Ursula McKay

Plants Are My Soil Mates reads a sign inside of Ursula McKay’s cubicle at Boerman Moving and Storage. The sign couldn’t represent McKay better, as gardening is her hobby. A few years ago, McKay, who does Accounting/Billing at Boerman, and her husband had a house built, with plenty of outdoor space for McKay to enjoy. “We have flowers, veggies, fruits, two apple trees,” McKay said of her garden. “In the summertime, I love reading books. … I like to do it outside. I sit down on the patio and read. It’s like an oasis.”

Tell me about yourself.

I came to the states 30 years ago from Poland. It was my first time in a different country, my first time in an airplane. I got married, then got divorced, but I had two beautiful kids–my daughter is 27 and she is about to get married. She’s a chemist. My son is 23. He is managing a store. I got married again about 11 years ago to a wonderful man. We have two senior cats.

How did you get your start at Boerman? How long have you been working for Boerman?

I worked for a company for 11 years. I never got a raise there. So I was looking for a job again and landed this one. This one was three miles from my house. I just came here and started here. That was five years ago.

What’s your favorite memory of working at Boerman?

The good times are the Christmas party.
