Summertime in Chicago
Close your eyes… Just imagine… Waves crashing, kids playing, warm sand between your toes…
No, I am not talking about a Caribbean vacation, I am talking about summertime in Chicago!
You do not need to go far this summer to enjoy the beach, just head over to the shoreline of Lake Michigan and enjoy a full day in the sun, sand, and freshwater.
Did you know there 24 beaches in Chicago? Chicago beaches are OPEN (Beaches. Are. Back.) for the season and the best part: they are FREE! Some of the beaches in Chicago, such as North Avenue Beach, offer many amenities including bike, lounge chair, kayak and jet ski rentals and restaurants. The beaches stretch 26 miles on the shore of freshwater Lake Michigan and are only an hour drive from most suburbs, making them a perfect day trip for families, friends, and couples.
One of my favorite things about living in the suburbs is being able to take a quick trip to Chicago to hang out on the beach. I have not made it to all 24 beaches, but each one that I have visited has been very clean and safe. The Chicago Park District samples the beaches seven days a week there is no pathogens in the water that could make you sick. In addition to water testing, the park district has also put into place COVID guidelines to keep everyone safe.
Before you head out to one of the beaches visit: https://www.chicagoparkdistrict.com/parks-facilities/beaches#About for the most up to date swim conditions.
Have fun this summer and enjoy a “stay-cation” to one of the beautiful beaches in Chicago!
