It was a Lyons Township High School connection that sealed the deal for Frank Ortiz at his interview with Boerman Moving and Storage seven years ago. The Customer Service Manager says his job at Boerman can be stressful at times, but he prefers it that way. “I wouldn’t change working here,” he said. “I love it here.” The 33-year-old and his wife recently became first-time homeowners, so Ortiz spends a lot of time working on his home, playing with his three children, and watching Chicago sports.

How did you get your start at Boerman?

Previously, I was working for a hotel and voluntarily left–searching for something new. I worked for a contractor doing physical moves. My contractor at the time told me about the position [at Boerman].

What’s your favorite memory of working at Boerman?

Employee Appreciation–all the men of the company did a group outing and went paintballing, and that was awesome. Just seeing your coworkers outside of the work atmosphere being real people–that was awesome. And we have some pretty kickass Christmas parties. That always sticks out as well.

What do you like most about your job?

It’s a family-oriented company. We’re not micromanaged by any means. As long as you handle your stuff and do your work it’s fine. No day is like another. It doesn’t get boring because something different always comes up. Issues come up. We’re human; we make mistakes, and customers don’t always understand that side of the business. It keeps me on my toes.
