Outside of work, there are two things that are very important to Vince Clemente: family and sports.  So it’s no surprise that these are the same principles Clemente values about his job as Vice President of Operations at Boerman Moving and Storage. “This place is so family-oriented, which makes it awesome,” Clemente said of working at Boerman. When it comes to managing, Clemente uses a team-oriented coaching approach, similar to what one would see in an NFL franchise. “I feel like the biggest thing in America is the NFL. If they don’t have good ownership from the top down, from general managers, down to the players, you don’t have a successful business. … The way I structure who I’m in control of is 100% team-oriented. Recruiting drivers is like sports; we probably have the youngest fleet in the system because I have five guys under 30 and another three or four under the age of 45. Half of our fleet is under the age of 40. That’s another reason why we’re set up for success. It’s a rush when I can get’ a star quarterback’ or ‘a running back or a receiver.’” Clemente is an avid Bears and Sox fan, and when he’s not working, he is with his family. He and his wife of 20 years have two daughters–one who attends Joliet West High School and plays Pink Elite basketball out of Plainfield and another in nursing school.

How have you seen Boerman change since you’ve been here?

When I started in 2007, we were much smaller; we had three to four over-the-road drivers and five local crews. We had three home delivery trucks; we now have 23 over-the-road drivers and eight local crews.  Our office staff has grown at least three times the size. We had two salesmen; now we have six; there was only one customer service rep and now there are three; we’ve had to separate both local and interstate [moves].

What do you like most about working for Boerman?

It’s family-oriented and the ownership lets the employees be themselves. They do not micromanage. In this industry you’re doing so many things on the fly, kind of like football; you have to make that end-game decision. What other industry or company will allow me to make vast decisions?

Clemente added that when his wife was hospitalized due to COVID, the owners of Boerman offered him great support. “My wife was in the hospital for 11 weeks and was in a coma for 36 days,” he said. “Jina, Mike and Dan–just what they did for me then–my loyalty will always be here.”

What’s your favorite memory of working at Boerman?

There are so many. When I got to 10 drivers, that was a good feeling. The year we took over being number one hauler five to seven years ago (which we have maintained); [when] I was given employee of the year
